No books but plenty of magazines! I don’t often get to do crossword puzzles these days nor read the gossip rags so I was inundated with the likes of Australian Women’s Weekly and cheerful celebs grinning on Christmas covers… don’t get me started on the luscious festive recipes… 🙂

I can’t recall the last time I read a magazine, although I always pick up a copy of Private Eye when I’m catching a plane. I hate flying and find its blend of satire and investigative journalism just the thing to keep my mind occupied at 30-whatever thousand feet! 😲
I’m delighted with my new planner, which was a gift from my brilliant mum (she’s got a knack for buying the perfect gift). 😊

Greetings of the season! I received The Value of Everything, a compelling slice of postmodern political economy, which plays with the old distinction between price and value. For example, if I paid an elf to bring me a Christmas tree it would add to GDP, but if I obtained some holly from the woods it would escape the national accounts. One of Karl Marx’s earliest writings was about peasants thieving branches, but clearly I couldn’t condone such anarchic behaviour.
Mazzucato’s book? I’m no economist but it does sound interesting. I have to confess, I’m with the branch thieving peasants!
I got a beautiful facsimile edition of The Murder at the Vicarage by Agatha Christie and the British Library Classic Continental Crimes. Hope you had a lovely Christmas x

My husband and son won the “most books received” contest with eleven each. I received five, one a special “text-bombed” book (I’ve written about this on my blog before; we cover the text on a children’s book with our own text) and the other four are: The Nobody People, Proehl, Dead Astronauts, Vandermeer, A Girl is a Half-Formed Thing, McBride, and Day Zero, Devos.
Wow! Eleven books each is good. You have some excellent titles there, Jeanne. 😊

No books on the day but I’m promised a copy of the new Pullman when Postman Pat clears his backlog. And I often get a book voucher from the choral society I accompany, but I don’t expect it as a given — and as I have enough books waiting to keep me going until Doomsday I’m good with no bookish pressies (boo! if Doomsday comes early).

This seemed to be the year of the cookbook for us. I love a good cookbook with yummy pictures! I also received some book money, so I get to go shopping. Making the list and narrowing it down is one of my favourite bookish activities. 🙂
